Two dozen Black farmers and their supporters picketed corporate offices of First Union Bank in Charlotte, North Carolina, June 26. They were protesting the planned merger of First Union and Wachovia Bank. The farmers are demanding guarantees of banking services before the merger goes through. Both banks have a poor record of providing loans to farmers and small businessmen who are Black. |
