Protesters in Miami:
FBI framed ‘Liberty City 7’
AP/Wilfredo Lee

MIAMI—Relatives of the “Liberty City Seven” joined a June 29 press conference in Liberty City—a center of the Black community here—to protest their arrest by the FBI a week earlier as a blatant frame up. The government has charged the seven with plotting a “terrorist conspiracy” to blow up the Sears Tower in Chicago and the FBI offices in Miami. The case is based on testimony of an FBI informer who reportedly entrapped the men by posing as a representative of al-Qaeda. As of July 5, all seven have been denied bail.

Sarah Ruth Robinett, Socialist Workers Party candidate for Florida House of Representatives, District 109, which encompasses Liberty City, is campaigning there. “We join with those who protest the FBI raid and arrests in Liberty City,” she told the Militant. “This frame up, based on ‘evidence’ cooked up by one FBI snitch, shows how similar operations will be used against workers fighting to organize and use our unions, protesting police brutality, or opposing Washington’s war policies. These are the ultimate targets of Washington’s so-called war on terror.”
