‘Jackson Advocate’
Readers who have been following the Militant’s coverage of the Socialist Workers 2004 campaign’s efforts to get on the ballot in Mississippi will be pleased to know that the August 16-22 Jackson Advocate published a letter to the editor from four campaign supporters in Tchula, Mississippi. The letter was written in response to an early August article in the Advocate that red-baited and slandered the Socialist Workers campaign. The letter from Tchula also appeared in the September 21 Militant. It was signed by Barbara Bell and Joann Hogan, two veterans of the Catfish Workers of America’s strike at Freshwater Farms catfish plant in Belzoni, Mississippi, in 1998-99, and David Howard and R.D. Howard from the Mileston Co-op, the oldest Black farmers’ cooperative in Mississippi.
