Workers in Argentina
protest austerity measures

March in Argentine city of Córdoba during strike on May 29. Trade unionists and unemployed workers protested against austerity measures imposed by President Eduardo Duhalde. The actions coincided with the commemoration of the 1969 uprisings known as the Cordobazo. The IMF and World Bank have demanded that the federal government take steps to slash the budgets of the provinces. The capitalist rulers aim to gut the social wage of working people while ensuring that the massive interest payments on the Argentina’s $140 billion debt keep flowing into the coffers of banks in the imperialist centers.
