The remaining $4,500 in pledges, however, needs to be sent in right away. The fund was due to be completed by July 1. This means supporters of the revolutionary press need to collect payments in each local area over the next week.

The Over-the-Top fund registered an enthusiastic response to the international $100,000 Pathfinder Fund. After contributors around the world surpassed that goal, reaching $103,000, Pathfinder supporters decided to take advantage of the Active Workers Conference, held in mid-June in Oberlin, Ohio, to increase the contributions even further.

The fund makes it possible to keep in print the existing Pathfinder arsenal of more than 350 Pathfinder books and pamphlets. It also allows Pathfinder to maintain the ambitious publishing schedule it has set to meet the needs of growing numbers of workers, farmers and youth who are hungry for the working-class politics explained in Pathfinder books.

The latest example is the newly reissued pamphlet Revolution in the Congo, which has been flying off literature tables in front of theaters showing the film Lumumba in New York City. The pamphlet, which explains the history of the independence and anti-imperialist struggle in the Congo, has also introduced dozens of people to the broad range of Pathfinder books offering an international and class perspective to address the interests of working people. Pathfinder is also preparing new pamphlets in French and Spanish of speeches by Thomas Sankara, leader of the 1983–87 revolution in Burkina Faso.
