NY sanitation workers strike for wages, benefits

Members of Local 108 of the Laborers International Union picket trucks of the Waste Management garbage disposal company in the Bronx, New York, on October 2, the first day of their strike. The 35 workers are demanding improved medical insurance and pension plans, an across-the-board wage increase of $1 an hour, and an increase in machine operators' wages to match those of workers employed at other companies.
