Celebrate 100 Years Of Struggle Against U.S. Imperialism
"I've wanted to come to Miami for many years," stated
Rafael Cancel Miranda during his talk in Miami May 2. He was
part of a panel discussion on "100 Years of Resistance"
celebrating struggles against imperialism. Cancel Miranda is
a Puerto Rican fighter who was imprisoned in U.S. jails for
28 years and a leading spokesperson for the independence of
Puerto Rico. Despite a counterdemonstration of about 25
right-wing Cuban-Americans outside, 175 people participated
in the event, which brought together fighters from several
struggles. Also speaking were Andrés Gómez, leader of the
Antonio Maceo Brigade; Irvin Forestier of the Orlando,
Florida, chapter of the Committee for the Release of the
Puerto Rican Political Prisoners; Tony Jeanthenor of the
Haitian rights organization Veye-Yo; Walfrido Moreno,
president of the Alliance of Workers in the Cuban Community;
and Mary-Alice Waters, president of Pathfinder Press.
